Borderlands creator leaves Gearbox for 'new adventures'

lundi 20 avril 2015

The creator of Borderlands, Matthew Armstrong, has left Gearbox Software.

Armstrong confirmed his departure from the development studio over the weekend on his Twitter.

Along with creating Borderlands, Armstrong also penned the first game in the series while also being involved with the creation of both Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel in a number of capacities.

Armstrong’s departure comes just a few days after 2K Australia, the studio behind Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, was shut down. He spoke with Game Informer and credited his leaving to temporarily being “non-vital.” “I could leave without damaging Borderland or Gearbox too much if I did it at this moment, so now was the time,” Anderson said. “I think Gearbox will do great in the future, and I think Borderlands will stay strong and awesome. I've been thinking about it for a while.  I'm not quitting out of anger or getting fired.  It's just time for new adventures. I'm an inventor. I'm ready to make something new. Not just new to me, but new to everyone.”

We could certainly understand why Anderson would feel like he’s ready for a new adventure to invent something completely new, but we wonder why he couldn’t just work on something new while at Gearbox Software. Although it seems like Gearbox is currently putting the majority of its resources on the series.
