Report: 2K Australia shut down with all staff laid off

2K Australia has proven to be a great haven of talent for 2K Games. The studio was most recently responsible for releasing Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. Unfortunately, this success was not enough to keep their doors open, as reports are coming in that the Canberra, Australia studio has officially been shut down.

Kotaku in Australia is reporting that all staff at the 2K Australia studio has been let go. Operating costs are being cited as the reason for the studio's closure. Sources also informed Kotaku in Australia that a potential move to Melbourne also resulted in strife that may have led to talent departures and ultimately sealed the Canberra studio's fate. With 2K Australia goes the country's lone remaining AAA studio.

While 2K Australia will be remembered for Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, the studio also helped contribute to games like the BioShock series.
