Top 5 Badass Video Game Weapons

When it comes to action games, there is no friend more trusted than the gun at your side, but a sword will do just as well. Here are five legendary weapons found in video games that don't need obvious acronyms like BFG to show off how badass they are. May your enemies tremble before them.

Chainsword (Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine)

There's no shortage of brutal weapons in Warhammer 40,000 universe, but few are as iconic as the Chainsword. Often coupled with a Bolt Pistol, the Chainsword is the preferred weapon for close combat by many a Space Marine. It is literally a sword with powered, razor-sharp, teeth running through it like a chainsaw. The monomolecule edge slices through armor, flesh, and bone with gruesome ease. It is a standard among Space Marines, and they wield it as though it were a natural extension of themselves. Furthermore, it's about the only way to justify having chainsaws on alien worlds where trees presumably don't grow.

The Lancer (Gears of War)

An assault rifle equipped with a chainsaw bayonet, like the Lancer from Gears of War, must violates several human rights treaties. Not to mention the potential for accidents should the weapon be mishandled. But apparently, none of that applies when we're talking about interstellar colonies, especially when combating an alien species. Which is why they're especially suited for combating Locusts. The beauty in this weapon is that running out of ammunition is just an obstacle. It means you'll have to get a little closer to dispense some up-close and personal death. Plus, just revving it gets you in a killing mood.

Dubstep Gun (Saints Row 4)

The Saints Row 4 Dubstep Gun adds an electronic beat to your carnage. If the power of music is a force to be reckoned with, this gun is the ultimate proof of that. As one of the game's most powerful weapons, the Dubstep fires long-range energy pulses set to electronic music beats. The song being played depends on the costume the player is wearing, so fashion does make a statement. Switch between the default, Industrial, Popstar, and Da Wub constumes for different tunes. Plus, there's a DLC pack that adds even more killer tunes to the mix. There's no ammo count to think about, either. Instead, it charges up and lets you cut loose; dubstepping people in the face.

Golden Gun (GoldenEye)

The Golden Gun is one of the two most powerful weapons found in the N64's GoldenEye (the other being the Gold PP7), and is the most iconic. It can only be found in a secret bonus mission called Egyptian, but players can summon it with a cheat code if they don't feel like doing the legwork. The gun is also in mulitplayer matches and scenarios like Man with the Golden Gun. But there's only one, and it doesn't respawn, so players must fight fiercely for it. This weapon kills all but the most powerful enemies with a single shot. The only thing preventing the user from becoming an unstoppable killing machine is the fact that it holds a single bullet in its chamber. Players have to be accurate, because they must reload after each shot, but even unskilled opponents will want to grab it up to deny others from having it. This weapon proves that the golden touch can be deadly.

Master Sword (The Legend of Zelda)

Originally crafted by the goddess Hylia, and later forged in the Three Sacred Flames, The Master Sword is a legendary weapon from the Legend of Zelda series. Blessed by Zelda and transformed into the True Master Sword, it is the only weapon that can defeat Ganon. This sword has its own will, powered by the spirit Fi, who sleeps eternally within. To top it all off, it can only be received by a hero who has gone through trials that test his courage, wisdom, and power. So, in order to wield this weapon, you have to earn it.

Infused with the sacred flames, the Master Sword has the power to vanquish evil and break even the most powerful dark curses. Although the strength behind the sword and its abilities has a tendency to change from game to game, players always get a thrill out of picking it up and getting their heroic validation.
