While WonderCon in Anaheim, CA is a less-crowded comic convention, there was some gaming presence at the event this weekend. Most notably, Capcom was in attendance, holding a panel on Saturday morning. Shacknews was also invited to attend the World of Capcom panel and here's what was on display.
The panel kicked off with news about Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate. After showing off the game's accolades trailer and catching people up on the new features, news was revealed about the game's DLC. Mario costumes were released yesterday, weeks after the Legend of Zelda costume packs were released. Future DLC is expected to take costume ideas from Sonic the Hedgehog, Devil May Cry, and Street Fighter.
Gears quickly shifted to Devil May Cry. After showing off the trailer for DMC: Definitive Edition, the panel discussed the upcoming Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition. The panel recapped that game's handful of features, elaborating on the newly-playable Vergil, Lady, and Trish. Vergil will combine components of his Devil May Cry 3 and DMC: Devil May Cry mechanics. Lady is a long-range character and uses her Kalina Ann rocket launcher and grappling wire. Trish can use the Sparda sword and it can home in on her foes, allowing it to fight in tandem with her.
Next up was Resident Evil, first showing off the remastered original game that was recently released. After recapping that game's features, Capcom offered up a similar recap for Resident Evil Revelations 2, reminding the audience that all four of its episodes have been released, with the retail version offering two bonus episodes and addition Raid missions. As the panel offered an overview on the Revelations 2 story, they reminded the audience that the game is more of a spiritual successor to the first game and is more about telling a whole new story.
Up next was Dead Rising: Watchtower, the Crackle-exclusive film based on the Dead Rising series. The movie stars former Daily Show correspondent Rob Riggle as war-covering reporter Frank West. Capcom pointed to the light tone, as well as the explicit aim to utilize aspects of the game, such as the combo weapons that didn't make it into any of the games. Dead Rising: Watchtower is available now exclusively on the Crackle streaming service.
The panel then moved on to the newer hotness, namely Street Fighter V. Capcom noted that news on the next chapter of the series would come in earnest starting at this year's E3. It was reiterated that PlayStation 4 and PC players would be able to play with one another, before the audience was, once again, treated to the Charlie/Nash trailer. Collectors of figures, statues, and other such items were also treated to a first look at the San Diego Comic-Con exclusive light-up Ryu statue. The statue features the Shoto fighter in mid-Hadouken pose, with Ryu's signature fireball lighting up when plugged in. Variants of the statue will also be available, such as an Evil Ryu.
All in all, not a lot to this particular Capcom panel, offering more of a recap of the past couple of months while preparing the crowd for what's to come in the next few months. More information on upcoming Capcom games is expected soon, with the panel pointing to this year's San Diego Comic-Con as their next big destination.
