Weekly Game Release Highlights, June 1-7

dimanche 31 mai 2015

This week's new releases are actually highlighted by a game you may have thought was already out. It's easy to take an alpha or a beta for granted, but no, Heroes of the Storm had not officially launched. That changes this week, as Blizzard's entry to the MOBA genre hits 1.0. There's also the Double Fine Kickstarter success story Massive Chalice, as it not only releases on PC, but it also comes to Xbox One. And then there's Swery's D4: Dark Dreams Don't Die, which was sent to die on Xbox One and will now attempt to find a new audience on PC. Check out the full list of new releases below.

Splatoon Review: A Splattering of Greatness

samedi 30 mai 2015

After years of dogged complaints that Nintendo complacently lives on the strength of its already-popular franchise characters, the company has seemingly made a point to address the critique head-on. Between Code Name: STEAM and now Splatoon, 2015 has dramatically increased the pace of introducing new series. Splatoon is further outside of Nintendo's comfort zone than STEAM, so while it has a wealth of creativity and playfulness, that praise has to be tempered with the acknowledgement that this first step is an awkward one.

Getting Inked

Splatoon is, after all, an online multiplayer shooter--albeit a unique one. Ingenious little touches like allowing you to swim through and hide in your own ink means you're responsible for making your own quick-travel pathways and cover. The ability to swim up sheer walls makes traversal feel naturally tied to the fundamentals. Those traits are really something special, because there are no other shooters that feel like this does.

In a very Nintendo touch, it deemphasizes shooting each other. In the most common Turf War mode, your real goal is to paint every square inch of the map you can. Splat Zones is similar, but has you contesting smaller areas. While your weapons are certainly meant to be used offensively against other players, it's mainly just to remove them as obstacles to your own ink coverage, and to prevent them from covering more of the map with their own. Kills (or "splats") don't add to your point total, so players without one-on-one battle skills can still make a difference by playing smart and avoiding conflict. It's a cuter, friendlier shooter.

At the same time, no genre has been better defined through sheer powerhouse popularity with series like Halo, Call of Duty, and Battlefield. I didn't go into Splatoon expecting all of their bells and whistles, but even some of its fundamental choices are oddities.

Messy Multiplayer

Strangest among these is the rotation of two maps at a time. Unlike more established shooters, or even Nintendo's other popular online games like Mario Kart or Smash Bros, Splatoon starts every play session with the announcement of which two maps are currently playable in both unranked and ranked modes. That's only four maps open at any given time. I was left feeling like the game didn't offer enough map variety on the whole, but that could be chalked up to the two-map limit that made play sessions feel repetitive after only a handful of matches. For this reason, it's best played in short bursts.

Nintendo also lifted the gear from multiplayer shooters, without entirely grasping how to best utilize it. Gear is for sale as you level up, with different ratings based on how many passive traits are available on it. The traits are apparently randomized, and partially hidden until you upgrade the gear through use, making it harder to spec a character to suit your playstyle. Plus, it's difficult to compare the gear you have equipped to the ones for sale, making shopping a chore.

Those storefronts are physical places, thanks to a hub world that encourages exploration. I had played a full week before discovering a vendor that could dig up a piece of gear that I found on another player, for instance.

Child of FLUDD

Tucked away in a corner of the hub is the single-player campaign--a shame for how fleshed-out it is. The story is nothing special, or even all that sensical, but it's here where Nintendo's experience really shines. The single-player stages are designed like a shooter-platformer, borrowing Super Mario Galaxy's isolated platform gauntlets with Mario Sunshine's FLUDD mechanics. It does fine to teach the fundamentals, but it actually goes a step further by being fully-realized in itself.

Those fundamentals will only do so much to prepare you for multiplayer, which tends to become an exhilarating, chaotic romp. It certainly isn't balanced, since experience nets better weapons and gear. It can be sometimes frustrating to be thrown into a match with much higher-level players. There was also no way to back out of a lobby while waiting for players, so if I mis-clicked or had trouble finding a match, I was simply left waiting for a full party or for the clock to time out. Fortunately the full retail version has matched me almost instantly every time, but if the player base starts to dry up it will become a real problem.

The color palette is intentionally garish, with bright hues that always feel perfectly contrasted with each other. The character style was more off-putting for me. Though the designed characters looked fine, like the aforementioned map announcers, the player characters always struck me as gangly and indistinct. It's a matter of taste, but I didn't find the inklings as instantly endearing as other Nintendo creations.

Fully Covered

I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Splatoon, whenever I was simply playing it. My complaints all revolve around the periphery: factors like map selection, matchmaking, and gear. That the core is so solidly built is a testament to Nintendo's skill at refining a unique concept, but taking note of other shooter norms would have made it more welcoming on the whole.

This review is based on a Wii U download code and Amiibo provided by the publisher. Splatoon will be available in retail stores and on the Nintendo eShop on May 29, for $59.99. The game is rated E-10+.

Halo 3: ODST Master Chief Collection launches today with Halo 2 multiplayer map

The Halo 3: ODST campaign for Halo: The Master Chief Collection has finally been released by 343 Industries as redemption codes have started to flood the inbox of Xbox One owners.

The redemption codes for Halo 3: ODST appears to be going out to those who attempted to play The Master Chief Collection anywhere between its November 11 launch and December 19. 343 announced late last year anyone who attempted to play its game within those dates would receive a free copy of Halo 3: ODST when it releases.

The Halo 3: ODST update adds the original’s main campaign, all of which is running at 1080p and 60fps. Unfortunately, its co-op Firefight game mode is not included. Those who are not eligible to receive a free redeemable code from Microsoft for Halo 3: ODST will need to wait until the campaign is officially listed on the Xbox Store, which is priced at $4.99.

343 has also released a re-imagined version of the popular Halo 2 multiplayer map Relic, called Remnant. It's available as part of a free game content upgrade, and is described as a secluded island, hidden along the coastal regions of Delta Halo. It features an asymmetric layout with the artifact's elevated position making it an ideal map for Slayer, Assault, and 1-Flag CTF game types.

Today’s news comes just a few days after 343 claimed the May 29 release date leak on Xbox.com was made in error as it was supposed to serve as a placeholder. We find it to be rather strange to release such a big add-on like ODST to The Master Chief Collection on a Saturday, but who are we to complain? At least 343 is staying true to its promise of giving away codes for ODST after The Master Chief Collection’s terrible launch.

Shack Reels: Top 10 Sidekicks

Many heroes are strong characters on their own. But there are some heroes that are made better by their #2. Sidekicks can often help heroes be at their best. They often don't get their due, but the day wouldn't be saved without them. They matter, too.

So for this week's Top 10, Greg Burke checks out the Top 10 Sidekicks in video games. From the more recent BioShock Infinite to the far more classic video game franchises, each of these games feature heroes that just wouldn't get as much without a little help from their friends.

Rumor: Microsoft resurrecting Silent Hills as an Xbox One exclusive

Rumors are circulating that Microsoft is in negotiations with Konami to revive Silent Hills. The game was officially canceled in April and the teaser, P.T., was pulled from the PlayStation Store shortly after.

The rumor comes from the YouTube channel, The Know, and reports that Microsoft is trying to finish the deal soon in order to announce Silent Hills at this year’s E3 as an Xbox One exclusive. The transaction is believed to be worth billions of dollars, leading us to think Microsoft could be purchasing the rights to the entire franchise. The game is said to have been 80 percent complete when it was canceled and could be released as early as spring 2016.

The news comes from an anonymous source who has given credible information in the past. The source was said to have leaked Microsoft's plans to release an Xbox One without Kinect long before Microsoft made it official.

If it is true, this is great news for the series and its fans. Silent Hills was slated to be the latest entry in the franchise and featured Norman Reedus as the story's protagonist and had direction from both Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro.  The horrifying P.T. trailer is reason enough to be happy for a Silent Hills resurrection on any console.

Fight your shadow in the Killer Instinct update hitting Xbox One

Your greatest foe is yourself in the free update for Killer Instinct released today.  The DLC offers gamers more leader boards and game modes, something our review said was lacking from the Xbox One launch title.

Xbox Wire reports the new content introduces Shadows Mode, a game mode that creates copies of your character that fight just like you do, including all of your combos, footsies, mix-ups, and mistakes.  Shadows Mode was created for players to spar against themselves to discover their personal strengths and weaknesses in their fighting style. Gamers will be able to fight against other player’s shadow as well.

Here’s a breakdown of the new content Killer Instinct owners can download today.

Shadow Survival – Quickly experience fighting styles from the community and create rivalries with people you’ve never known. Earn Shadow Points and issue Bounties to players you’ve beaten to encourage them to avenge their loss!

Shadow Challenge– Directly challenge someone’s Shadow to win Shadow Points. The bigger the fish, the bigger the payoff!

Shadow Leaderboards – Brand new Leaderboards just for this mode. Sort the best Shadows by character type and find the top Shadow Survival scores to see who’s on top!

Opinion: How Google Cardboard Could Usher In the VR Era

Google Cardboard seemed like a sort of comical novelty when it was first introduced last year, but yesterday's Google I/O conference keynote showed that the tech giant is doubling down on the concept. On its best day, it Cardboard looks little better than a toy View-Master knockoff. Comprised of a literal cardboard box, a few lenses, and a magnet, hobbyists could put together a device together for about $4. Then, all they have to do is drop their smartphone into it to get a cheap but satisfying virtual reality experience.

People are putting down their bets on which headset will usher in the VR revolution. Among the most prominent is Oculus VR, which Facebook acquired for $2 billion last year. Next is Sony's Project Morpheus, and lastly, the hit that came from out of nowhere is the HTC Vive. Without a doubt, these are some of the heavy hitters people generally associate with the term "virtual reality," and they promise to fully immerse users in a different reality. But virtual reality seems like the revolution that's forever stuck on the horizon. Between the cost of the hardware and technical challenges, it's hard to guess how well or quickly VR will take off, which is why a simple origami box for your smartphone might turn out to be the most ingenious device of them all.

Although the high-tech devices will always deliver the richest and deepest experiences, but oftentimes, the key to getting people to quickly adopt a technology is accessibility. Cardboard frames are now made by a number of manufacturers from materials other than cardboard, like aluminum, but the device is still the cheapest way for people to experience a sense of virtual reality. Smartphones are currently in use by billions of people, and they tend to be upgraded in shorter cycles than computers and console systems, so problems with the experience can be worked out in relatively short time.

The affordability and simplicity brings virtual reality to places it might not otherwise reach, like the classroom, where Google's Expeditions project promises to take students to far-off locations around the world. Virtual tours and events are the definitely where VR is headed, and Facebook made no secret about taking Oculus in that direction. More to the point, Cardboard makes it possible for a generation of kids to grow up experiencing VR first hand, which may motivate them to adopt more sophisticated devices when they grow older.

Additionally, Google is in a very good position to help create a greater demand for VR experiences, starting this summer with support for 3D YouTube videos that can be viewed on smartphones. It'll just be a matter of time before Google Street View gets full VR functionality, and given the Jump video camera array (16 GoPro cameras arranged in a circle for surround video) revealed at Google I/O, there's great potential for a flood of virtual 3D video content.

Of course, it will most likely be a combination of these experiences and video games that will fully usher in the VR era. People will naturally want to do more than look around a virtual reality world. They'll want to interact with it too. There are already a number of games developed for the Cardboard experience, with more on the way, and they're bound to spread because the Cardboard SDK isn't limited to Android phones. Cardboard games and experiences can also be developed for iOS, guaranteeing widespread accessibility.

It sure doesn't look like much - just a bit a cardboard, lenses, a magnet and a smartphone. But that's the beauty of it. Cardboard could be the breakthrough device enthusiasts have been waiting for, sneaking in to help usher everyone into a new reality.

The Witcher 3 Xbox One patch 1.03 coming today; full patch notes released

CD Projekt Red released The Witcher 3 patch 1.03 on the PlayStation 4 this week, bringing with it a number of visual tweaks, enlarged text and icons when viewing the loot screen, and other improvements. While those playing the PS4 version were given a head start to the Xbox One version, it’s been revealed patch 1.03 will be making its way to those users today.

CD Projekt Red community lead Marcin Momot revealed patch 1.03 “should be available for Xbox users today,” then apologized for the wait. The patch will lock the frame rate of the Xbox One version to 30fps, which should clear up a number of stuttering issues players have reported since its release. Today’s patch will also fix issues players have experienced with save files.

Here’s the full patch notes, which if you’ve been keeping tabs on the PS4 version, is very similar:

  • Corrects a bug where the player was able to shoot bolts at friendly NPCs.
  • Corrects an issue related to Stamina regeneration while sprinting.
  • Corrects a bug that could cause spontaneous combustion of gas clouds.
  • Reduces spawn times for certain groups of NPCs.
  • Blood particles will now correctly appear on water surfaces after foes are killed.
  • Corrects a visual effect in the Wandering in the Dark quest.
  • Improves foliage behavior in scenes.
  • Reduces foliage shadow popping.
  • Introduces a series of improvements in water rendering.
  • "Melltith" sword is visible again.
  • Fixes some minor graphics bugs in gwent.
  • Corrects some missing translations in localized versions.
  • Improves performance, especially in cutscenes and during gameplay.
  • Caps the framerate at 30 fps.
  • Fixes an issue that caused the autosave function to break during longer game sessions.
  • Introduces a number of minor improvements in SFX.
  • Fixes an issue that could have caused an infinite loading screen in certain circumstances in the Wandering in the Dark quest.
  • Corrects an issue in the dialogue system that might have caused rare instances of dialogue looping in certain scenes.
  • Improves stability in gameplay and the UI, especially during games of gwent.
  • Upgrading items included in gear sets no longer destroys rune sockets on said items.
  • Fixes an occasional bug in the Journal in the Fake Papers quest.
  • Enlarges the loot pop-up window in the UI.
  • Button callouts are now correctly displayed in the Main and Pause menus in the Japanese version.

The Best Witcher 3 Mods

The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt hasn’t been out for a month, but modders have already been busy creating their own additions to the newest game in the series. These mods range from weather mods, reshades, and all the way down to some NSFW mods that we won’t discuss in detail. The best thing is, there are already plenty of mods to help make your Witcher 3 experience even more amazing than it already is. We’d love to include all of them on here, but we’ve limited this article to the top 5 of the bunch. Feel free to share any mods that we miss, or forget to mention, down in the comment section.

E3FX

The E3FX reshade completely overhauls the game, removing a lot of the saturation and bright colors to give it more of the cool, and darker colors that could be seen in the 2013 trailers. It isn’t the perfect solution, and it’s not for everybody, but if you enjoyed the darker feeling of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings then you’ll most likely enjoy having this mod installed. Just keep in mind there is a slight framerate loss when using the mod, and programs like the Steam Overlay and video recording software like Fraps of Dxtory may cause issues with the shaders. Of course, if darker isn’t your thing, check out the Fantasy Graphics to make your game look more like a high fantasy masterpiece.

Increased Creature Loot

Killing monsters doesn’t net a lot of experience, unless you’re completing a contract. These kills also don’t net you a whole lot of loot either. This mod, Increased Creature Loot, looks to change at least one of those things by changing the game values to make creatures and monsters drop at least one piece of loot depending on the creature type. The mod also increases the chance of them dropping hides and natural ingredients, like Nekker Claws and Nekker hearts, instead of the generic loot drops you sometimes receive.

Wealthy Vendors with Fair Sale

How many times have you found yourself having to buy all of a merchant’s food just to be able to sell a few broken swords? The answer: way too many! The Wealthy Vendors with Fair Sale mod looks to change that by not only giving the vendors greater amounts of money to deal with, but also by upping the prices that they pay for items. This means all those swords you sold for 2 Crowns last night are now probably worth 17 Crowns. But hey, 17 is a much higher number than 2, wouldn’t you agree?

Diverse Trophies

Monster slaying is your lifestyle, and that means you need to be able to make the most of it when you’re busy chopping Griffin’s to pieces. Trophies are a great way to show off your accomplishments, all while giving you some added buffs. The Diverse Trophies mod helps make all those trophies worthwhile, increasing their values to work between a more diverse ranging. The best part, however, is the fact that the modder hasn’t gone overboard with the value changes, making this one of the best mods for any aspiring witchers.

More Horses Mod

The More Horses Mod is great for those looking to make Roach a little more personable. The mod gives players the ability to add two different color horses to the game, changing Roach’s appearance from brown to Black or White. It also gives you the ability to equip Roach with some stylish Wild Hunt horse armor, which looks pretty awesome when you’re sprinting down the dusty roads of the Northern Realm.

Honorable Mentions

While we decided to mostly limit ourselves to five top mods, we also wanted to make sure we mentioned all the mods that we’ve grown to love. The Instant Cast Signs mod allows you to bind Geralt’s different signs to different keys, thus removing the need to change it in the Equipment Wheel. At the same time, we just can’t see playing the game without the Extreme Weather Mod which adds darker storms, more lightning and thunder, and even more whipping wind. For those who are fans of the game’s immense and deep lore, and want a return to the way things used to be, the Lore Friendly Alchemy mod makes potion crafting back to the way it was in the books, and the first two games. This means alcohol won’t refill your potions, so make good use of those ingredients.

You can find all of these mods by clicking on the links in this article. This will take you to the Nexus download page where you can download and install the mod before hopping into your next Witcher 3 session.

And, special thanks to Chatty user dael for contributing music to the show, and to Bryan "Doctor Games" Carr for production assistance.
  • A recent post about Interstate '76 got me thinking. Are there any games that haven't had a sequel in decades that really deserve one?
  • Have you ever skipped a game because you hadn't played the previous games in the series and didn't know the story? I replayed both DA:O and DA2 before Inquisition came out, wanted to do the same for Witcher 3 but ended up just watching the recap videos instead. I feel like much of the impact of a story-focused game is lost when you come in halfway through the series.
  • Crowd sourced game development. I see examples of the gaming community having influence over development decisions. IDARB seems to be an example of this, but even on a small scale, vocal gamers are more and more lending their "expert" opinion on game development. This sort of ties into the Polygon story that played a clip of how focus groups, if taken literally, could have destroyed the heart and soul of Psychonauts. So should developers "listen" to their audience? Or should they go with their gut, for better or worse?

SOMA brings machines to life in September

Frictional Games has been aching to scare the living daylights out of its audience again. The makers of the Amnesia series of games have announced the release date for their next effort. SOMA is set to release on September 22 and Frictional has released a new gameplay video to go along with that announcement.

SOMA is a sci-fi horror tale that follows a trapped scientist aboard the PATHOS-2 research facility. All communication has gone dark, with the facility's staff disappearing and turning up dead. Meanwhile, the machines have started acting strangely, displaying human behavior. Frictional's newest video offers a 12-minute glimpse at the world players are about to step into, with much of the atmospheric tension that the studio has become recognized for.

SOMA is set to release on PC and PlayStation 4.

Guild Wars 2 kicks off 24-hour Stronhold PvP beta on Tuesday

One of the major additions to Guild Wars 2's upcoming Heart of Thorns expansion is the Stronghold PvP. The new competitive mode introduces elements of MOBA games into a Guild Wars 2 setting, with teams of five heroes looking to take down the opposing king. There's a little more to it than that, which players can see for themselves when the next Stronghold public beta takes place this coming Tuesday.

Guild Wars 2 players will be able to participate in Stronghold matches on June 2 at 12PM PDT, with the public beta running for 24 hours. There are no embargo restrictions in place, so live streamers can broadcast or otherwise capture as much footage as they desire. It also means that those who cannot make the beta will at least be able to watch the action on the Twitch channel of their choice.

Shacknews had a chance to check out an early incarnation of Stronghold a couple of months ago. You can check out those impressions here. We've also included a Stronghold match from the first Stronghold beta for your viewing pleasure below.

Rumor: Microsoft will launch Halo 5 and other Xbox exclusives on PC

With the upcoming launch of Windows 10, Microsoft is expected to make it much easier for Xbox One owners to stream their games across a variety of devices. While this is certainly good news for Xbox One owners, it doesn’t really affect PC gamers who only play on computers. That is, unless Microsoft releases Xbox-exclusive games onto the platform, which is precisely what a new rumor is suggesting will happen in the future.

According to several industry sources, games currently listed as Xbox exclusive will eventually launch on PC as a standalone game. “Microsoft are going to be focusing a lot more on the PC gaming side than previously, and they’re also going to be bringing a lot of Xbox platform exclusives to Windows as well,” says one senior PC gaming industry executive. “So this includes some of the biggest franchises in the Microsoft stable like Fable, Forza Motorsport and Halo. They're all forecasted to start coming out on PC in the future."

Forza Motorsport 6, Halo 5: Guardians, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and Fable Legends are all expected to be released this fall exclusively on Xbox, with the latter being the only exception as it’s confirmed for the PC. If this rumor turns out to be true, having these Xbox-exclusive titles on PC would make a serious case for gamers to upgrade to Windows 10, as we assume that’d be one of the major stipulations Microsoft would make for their release. We'd also be curious to see if Microsoft decides to launch previously-exclusive Xbox games, like the Gears of War series, onto PC as well.

Ultra Street Fighter 4 PS4 will miss 2015 Capcom Tour due to bugs

Ultra Street Fighter 4’s PlayStation 4 launch went on with several hitches as users reported a number of issues with the game, such as input lag and delays and some severe bugs. Today, Capcom has announced they’re working on patching the game up, and they’re also pulling it from its own tournament, 2015 Capcom Pro Tour.

In a statement published on Capcom Unity, Capcom says they’re aware users are experiencing problems with the PlayStation 4 version of USFIV, “which was published and developed by SCEA’s Third Party Production group.” Both SCEA and Capcom are looking into these reports and will work on fixing them quickly, although no timeline was given.

As for the PlayStation 4 version of USFIV’s removal from its tournament, Capcom made the following announcement. “A lot of our more competitive players have wondered how the USFIV version of PS4 will affect them and the tour. To that we'd like to advise that the integrity of the Capcom Pro Tour is a top priority for us and we will continue to work with tournament organizers worldwide to ensure that the highest quality event will be run. Each region will maintain its current hardware standard for the remainder of the 2015 Capcom Pro Tour until otherwise announced. We will keep you updated as to when the PS4 version of USFIV will be integrated into the Pro Tour.”

Report: Steam Summer Sale 2015 taking place on June 11

We hope you’ve been saving up since last year’s Steam summer sale as it appears this year’s sale will be taking place on June 11.

According to reports, Valve has announced the Steam Summer Sale will be taking place on June 11 on its VKontakte page, which is a Russian social network that’s popular in Europe. The sale is expected to last until June 20, which Steam will then begin its Encore Sale until June 22.

Steam’s sales are seen as big events in the eyes of PC gamers considering how many great deals Valve publishes at these times. The Summer Sale can put a serious dent in most people’s wallets, but it pales in comparison to the near-comatose state wallets can get into during Steam’s Winter Sale. Either way, please remember to spend responsibly and don’t buy games while hungry. Just trust us on this one.

We’ve reached out to Valve to confirm whether or not the sale information published on its VKontakte page is accurate and if customers around the world can expect the Summer Sale to take place at the same time.

Twitch bans streaming Adults-Only games prior to Hatred's launch [Update]

Twitch has announced it will no longer allow users to stream Adults-Only-rated games on its platform.

In a rules of conduct update regarding adult-oriented games, Twitch says its users “should not broadcast” games rated Adults Only by the ESRB, although Mature versions of these games are allowed to be streamed. For example, the Mature versions of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and Fahrenheit: Indigo Prophecy are allowed. Games that are rated 18+ by similar rating systems in other countries are acceptable.

This change comes on the eve of Hatred’s release, and is mentioned by name in the updated list of prohibited titles. It is an extremely violent game where its protagonist kills anyone and everyone, regardless if they’re good or bad. Hatred has caused quite a bit of controversy since its initial announcement, and now that Twitch is banning Adults Only games from being streamed, we could only guess it’s so Hatred’s influence can't be spread outside of those who are really interested in playing it.

We have reached out to Twitch to see if they have further comments regarding this change in policy, especially so close to Hatred's release.

[Update: A Twitch representative responded to us with the following statement: "The decision was made to bring more clarity to our Rules of Conduct. Generally, games that fall in the AO-rated spectrum have always been out of bounds on Twitch due to the standard language of both the RoC and ToS. Instead of dealing with this on a per-game basis, we wanted to make a very clear standard rule set."]

Splatoon Beginner's Guide and Tips

jeudi 28 mai 2015

Splatoon has launched, giving players a chance to try Nintendo's wacky, colorful crack at the multiplayer shooter. How are you going to get the paint-soaked edge on your Inkling competition? Check out Shacknews' tips to get you started on the right track.

Don't Worry about Kills - As you might imagine from a Nintendo game, getting kills on your opponent's team really isn't the goal in Splatoon. Your job is to ink up as much ground as you can cover. Splatting the competition is helpful, as it removes an obstacle to your own ink coverage and prevents them from covering areas with their own, but always keep in mind that it's not the goal. That means sometimes it's better to run or lay low, giving you more opportunity to paint the town red instead of going head-to-head.

Prioritize Contested Areas - Since the goal is to have the most area covered with ink, you should always go after contested areas first. If a part of the map is swimming in the other team's ink, try to take some of that area back. Areas that haven't been inked at all add to your total, naturally, but inking over the other team's area gives you points while taking away theirs.

Don't Wail for Walls - Satisfying as it may be to paint a wall, they don't count towards your points total. The only reason to splash a wall is to give you quick transport by swimming up its side. That can be incredibly helpful, but don't focus too much on covering every square inch.

Paint Yourself Into a Corner - One of the most unique aspects of Splatoon is your ability to swim in your team's ink, effectively acting as instant camoflauge to set up for ambushes or to sneak around your opponents. If you're pressing into a new area, or one that is primarily covered in your opponent's ink, take a moment to splash an alternate escape path. If you come face-to-face with a member of the other team, you can make a quick getaway or hide in a small puddle while you wait to strike.

Use the Squid Jump - Instead of always hoofing it on-foot to the big battle areas, Splatoon lets you jump straight to a teammate by tapping their icon on the GamePad screen. This is a great way to get back into the action quickly, and you can even fire your weapon a little on the way down. Just be careful not to jump into a hotzone, because the other team will be warned of your impending landing.

Keep an Eye on Your Base - The drawback of the jump is that it will often transport you to the middle of the map. Smart Inklings will sneak around the chaos and paint your side, grabbing some land and pestering you at your spawn point to boot. Whenever you die, take a quick glance at the GamePad to see if any paint paths are inching towards your spawn point. If so, you might want to stick close to home and keep them from hitting you where it hurts.

Swim Strategically - Swimming around the battlefield is quick and sneaky, but unless you have some special skills equipped, your opponents can see some telltale signs. Sometimes it's better to stay still under the ink, and pop out for an ambush. It does make you more vulnerable to some attacks, especially Rollers, but it pays off if you're judicious with it.

Use Recon - It's tucked away in the main multiplayer menu where most players will skip straight into the action, but you can always press Y to go into Recon mode. This gives you a quick opportunity to check out a map with no opponents, so you can learn all of its little nooks, crannies, and shortcuts. The slight time investment can give you a big advantage over more impatient Inklings.

Help Cap'n Cuddlefish - Tucked away in a corner of the main hub is Cap'n Cuddlefish, an NPC who introduces you to the single-player proceedings. Completing various pieces of the single-player campaign will unlock special gear for multiplayer, and besides that, it can help hone your splatting skills.

Gods Will Be Watching: The Last Chapter Review: The Gods Have a Cold Sense of Humor

Even after multiple patches that significantly tone the difficulty down, calling Gods Will Be Watching is far from a forgiving game. It's nihilistic, cynical, and oftentimes infuriating, but that's all part of its supposed charm. As charming as a trip through hell can be. The main game puts players in the role of Burden, a man who must make all the hard decisions in seven horrific scenarios, where he has to balance sacrifice against survival.

The newest DLC, plainly called The Last Chapter, doesn't lighten matters up. However, instead of trudging through several scenes, players are faced with just one. Set 20 years after the events of the main game, Liam (the story's main antagonist) decides to find Burden, who is lost in time and space. To do this, he must trek up a mountain alongside four companions comprised of returning characters.

But there's always a trick to any task God Will Be Watching puts before you. Your team could freeze to death during the snowy climb. Or you could be attacked by unknown threats on this alien world. Your primary resource is your ship's power core, which has to be carried. It serves as both a heat source and as your only means of reloading your laser weapons.

Similar to the main campaign, The Last Chapter deals with a sort of sinister mathematics, where players have to balance between stamina and warmth. The team walks in a line. Those at the front tire faster because they're walking through snow, while the ones at the end do better by following in a wake. At the same time, those closest to the power core will be warmer than the ones at the end. Characters will also grow tired if they have to carry heavy objects like the power core, or if they're tasked with dragging the sled your guide is laying on (the ship's crash landing broke his legs).

Turn by turn, you have to rearrange the characters and pass around the objects they carry. The moral aspects of the game are downplayed a bit in The Last Chapter, and the climb up the mountain feels more like a strategy game, but that's not to say that you don't get to make critical decisions. Shrines are placed at certain intervals that provide you with choices that benefit your team, but at a cost. The first shrine, for example, gives you a statue to carry over to the next one. Assigning someone to carry the object burns up stamina, but there's a big reward in store if you can get it up the mountain.

In many respects, the shrine choices don't amount to all that much morally. They could make your trip up the mountain a little easier, depending on what burdens you're willing to take on. However, none carry the same kind of weight as some of the main campaign's scenarios, like when you had to decide which person to test an experimental drug on. Or when you have to endure a lengthy torture sequence. There's no sense of having a lose/die situation when these shrine decisions.

But there's no judgment, even if you decide that the best course of action is to abandon one of your teammates to the cold to preserve the rest of the team. Unless you're playing on one of the lower difficulties, the add-on maintains the game's signature brutality and random events that can suddenly bring the game to an unceremonious end, forcing you to start back from the beginning.

The Last Chapter supposedly completes the Gods Will Be Watching story by providing closure for the final decision you made in the main campaign. It's very dialogue heavy, and reading through it provides players with more insight into the characters than they ever got from the primary story. But it concludes with in a way that makes it seem like the gods (aka the developers), might be having a big joke at the player's expense. Then again, like the nihilistic attitude and the soul crushing random events, it's all part of the Gods Will Be Watching Charm.

Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions triangulates its way to iOS

Sierra announced today that Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions, the retro arcade shooter, is now available in the App Store for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch.

The iOS version will present the same action from the other games in the franchise, but will introduce one-touch controls and support for iOS gamepads. Geometry Wars 3 will feature two exclusive stages for the Apple adaptations, and the new versions will allow players to compete against Facebook friends for high scores on each level. However, the mobile versions do not include multiplayer gameplay.

The Dimensions Evolved content that was released for other platforms in March won’t be available on release, but don’t be surprised if the DLC is ported over in the future.

Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions scored an 8/10 in our review in December. It's available now in the App Store for $4.99.

How to Become a Better Gwent Player

Gwent is a card-based game featured within The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt. It tasks two people against each other, in an attempt to win the match by overpowering the other player. There are four possible deck types currently available, and you’ll need to be aware of each one as you will face off against various opponents with various deck types.

Understanding Each Deck

As I mentioned above, there are four deck types featured in Gwent, and each one features a special bonus to that particular deck.

Northern Realms

This deck allows players to receive one additional card every time they win a round.

Nilfgaard

If the round ends in a draw, the owner of this deck will automatically win the round.

Soia’tael

This deck type will allow the user to choose who begins the round, thus removing the need for a coin toss.

Monsters

Each new round that is players, the owner of this deck will be allowed to keep one random Unit Card on their side of the board.

Know When to Walk Away

Gwent isn’t just a game of chance. Like many card games there is an extreme amount of RNG featured in the game’s make-up. However, it is up to you, the player, to figure out what moves you should make. Sometimes you just won’t be able to win, other times you’ll smoke your opponents without losing a single power crystal. No matter the outcome it’s always good to know when you should Pass and finish out a round. If you find yourself struggling to get the hang of Gwent, walk away, and come back to it later. There’s plenty to do in the world of The Witcher 3 without you spending your time cooped up in a tavern playing cards with a bunch of drunkards.

General Tips for Gwent

This guide wouldn’t be complete without a few easy tips to help you get stronger as a Gwent player.

Avoid using your strongest cards early in the match.

Be wary of weather cards. Try to only use them when they’ll hurt your opponent more than they will hurt you.

Make sure you have plenty of cards for each panel of the board. Don’t simply rely on Close Combat Unit cards to get the job done.

Make sure you know what every deck’s power is. This will help you prepare yourself better when it comes to fighting against opponents.

Try not to overload your deck with Unit or Weather cards. Doing so will oversaturate it, and lower your chances of winning.

Make sure your deck’s overall strength is above 100 for a 22 Unit card deck. Otherwise you’re bound to start seeing the loss screen more and more as you progress further into the game.

Do not play your entire hand of cards in the first round. You only get 10 cards to work with (unless you use Spy cards to gain more), so make sure to make every card count.

Don't use more than 22 Unit cards. You don't get to use them all anyway, so make sure you have your best and brightest chosen.

You don't need all 10 of those Special cards. Yes they are helpful, but having too many of them will saturate your deck, and possibly leave you with less Unit cards to use in your matches.

Your wager doesn't effect the prize. Stop wasting your money, and save it for better stuff. After all, if you aren't confident you can win the game, don't bet massive amounts of coin. It adds up fast.

Buy new cards every time you find them for sale. No serious. Just do it. You'll thank me when you're reeling in the wins against those pesky professionals up in Novigrad.

Use Decoy cards to get rid of enemy Spies. In fact, you can start using Decoy cards as early as Crow's Perch. Visit the Bloody Baron's Quartermaster to pick up one of these handy cards.

Play your Spy cards early. This means you get more cards to work with, and you can spend the rest of the match figuring out how to take away the negative effect of the play.

Make the most of every play. It shouldn't be hard to realize that this game is about making the most valuable plays, and tearing your enemy apart as you do it. If the play doesn't help you more than just this turn, don't make it. Wait until you can blow your enemy away with your strategy, and then watch the walls crumble.

Building a Strong Starter Deck

The next step in taking on the best Gwent players in the Northern Realms, is to have a good starter deck. This can be accomplished several ways, the easiest of which, is to obtain stronger cards. The more strength your deck has, the better your chances of winning are. Trust me, you want your chances of winning to be as high as possible. It’s also important to keep in mind that the card’s Power alone isn’t what determine its strength. There are several cards out there with secret powers which make Hero cards, and cards with 10 Power look small.

Build up Your Combos

Combos have always been a popular way to attack enemies in every game, and Gwent is no different. If you want to stick with the best of the best you’ll need to make sure you’ve got yourself set up for some nice combination hits. Cards with special abilities like Muster can allow you to pull multiple cards with the same name from your deck. This is great for adding more Power to your score, as you can have an almost unlimited amount of cards with the same name.

Morale Boosts are also fantastic for quickly building up your score. Many times these cards will allow you to double the Power of every card within a particular panel of your board. This can easily, and quickly turn your 6 Power Siege card into something worth up to double of that. Pair these Morale Boosts with Unit cards featuring the Medic ability, and you’ve written up the perfect recipe to take your enemy down quickly. Medic cards are useful because they allow you to choose a card from your Discard Pile. This is great for picking your Morale Boost cards back up just so you can drop them back onto the board once more.

Draw More Cards

Since you only start off with 10 cards, and you don’t get to draw more throughout the match, Unit cards that allow you to dive into your deck are great. These cards, called Spy cards, actually go to your opponent’s side of the field. This means you’ll be upping their Power level, but all in all you’ll get to draw two additional cards from your deck.

A great way to use your Spy cards is to make sure you have a Weather card which effects that particular panel ready to play afterwards. For example, say you play a Spy card that is a Ranged Unit. Then you would want to use a card like Impenetrable Fog to limit the amount of Power that each card in that panel earns. This will affect you as well, so make sure you aren’t relying too much on that Panel before playing it.

Destroy Your Enemies Cards

If you’ve played any amount of Gwent then chances are you’ve come across this card before. Scorch is a great card, which is extremely useful because it destroys and removes the strongest cards on the board. This is an extremely useful tactic to help clean up the board, remove some of your opponents Power, and just help ensure you win the round.

Playing Scorch too early, or at the wrong moment can be utterly catastrophic. Be patient, waiting until your opponent has the most cards with the highest Power. If you happen to lose some Power, don’t stress it, as long as your enemy loses more than you do you should be fine.

Don’t Play Your Cards Just Because You Have Them

The biggest mistake that many players make is to play their cards simply because they have them. You do not have to use your cards just because you drew them. If you happen to end up with a hand containing 4 Weather cards, hold off, and don’t use them. Wait to see what your enemy does, and then if you still have no use for them Pass, or Forfeit the game. It sucks to take a loss, but sometimes you won’t get the best playable hand ever. To make sure you don’t end up with too many Weather cards, or weak Unit cards, preen your deck, and keep it up to date with your strongest cards as often as possible. After all, you never know how many Gwent players you’ll run into in the next town over.

Before we go, there's one more thing I'd like to point out. For the love of everything holy... stop worrying about Round One. It's the first round for a reason, and you can easy make a comeback and finish your opponent off without them even seeing what you have planned. So don't stress if you're the first to lose a Power crystal. There is always room for Round 2 and Round 3.

Witcher trailer showcases the 'Beautiful World'

It truly is a beautiful world--at least the one created by CD Projekt Red for The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt. A new trailer shows off some of the world's environments, looking pretty as a picture.

Patch 1.03 for The Witcher was released earlier this week for PlayStaion 4 owners, to address some of the load times cited in our review. The load times were bad enough in some cases that walking was better than fast-traveling, but at least you could take in the scenery. The patch also fixed issues of immersion in the experience where NPCs wouldn't load quicly enough and would pop into view.

The new trailer features a bird's eye view of some of the gorgeous environment gamers can experience in The Witcher 3. The full video can be seen here.

Persona 4: Dancing All Night opens pre-orders with a J-pop trailer

Persona 4 has been a rich world and a rewarding series of games for RPG fans of all stripes. Persona 4 Golden remains one of the definitive RPG experiences on PlayStation Vita, while the story has been rich enough to support not one, but two fighting game spin-offs. Now Atlus would like to remind Persona fans about its next venture into the spin-off realm by releasing a new trailer for the bizarre Persona 4: Dancing All Night.

As the name implies, the main objective for Persona 4: Dancing All Night is to show off the characters' best dance moves. When shadows threaten the world, the best way to fight them off is with the power of dance, like some sort of weird anime Footloose... or something. Gameplay cues are taken from games like Dance, Dance Revolution, with players tapping buttons in rhythmic fashion to the disco beat.

I know. It's weird. But if nothing else, the music is definitely catchy. Find the full J-pop song list over on the Persona 4: Dancing All Night website. Give the music a listen in the new trailer below. We've also tossed in the original teaser, because the dancing must never stop! Persona 4: Dancing All Night is set to release on Vita this fall, with pre-orders now available.

OlliOlli2 adds multiplayer with free Combo-Rush update

By now, skaters have been racking up some high scores across all of OlliOlli2: Welcome to Olliwood. That's fine for personal bragging rights and for posting scores on Twitter, but that doesn't offer much in terms of the instant gratificaion one would get from immediately rubbing their score in their friend's face. So Roll7 is fixing that with the new Combo-Rush update that introduces split-screen multiplayer to OlliOlli2.

The Combo-Rush adds four new local multiplayer game modes across all of OlliOlli2's stages. These include:

  • Time: Players have a set time limit to rack up their highest score.
  • Race: Tricks are out the window, as players must race to the finish.
  • One-shot: Rack up as high a score as possible across a single skating line.
  • Score: Set the target score and wait to see if your friend can break it.

Each of these game modes can be played across a tournament format, with players able to set the tournament length. Ties are settled with a sudden death One-Shot stage.

New Xbox One controller expected to launch in June 2015

It appears Microsoft just couldn’t keep one of its E3 surprises to itself as its own Xbox Support website has outed a new version of the Xbox One controller that features a 3.5mm headphone jack at its base.

The 3.5mm headphone jack will only be available on controllers released after June 2015, the description states. This leads us to believe Microsoft not only plans on announcing its existence at this year’s E3, but will most likely announce their availability some time after its presentation.

What other fancy bells and whistles the new Xbox One controller will have is currently unknown as the product description doesn’t go into any additional specifics. In fact, the design of the controller looks to be largely the same as the previous Xbox One controller.

This isn’t the first time Microsoft has issued changes to its Xbox controller as a new Xbox 360 controller was offered years after the console was released featuring an improved D-Pad. The addition of a 3.5mm headphone jack would make things much easier for those who play with a headset to listen or communicate with their teammates during a game as we’d have one less adapter to worry about having around. The next step would be to support wireless communication, but we'll cross that bridge whenever we get to it.

New Batman: Arkham Knight gameplay video includes Poison Ivy and Oracle

A new gameplay trailer for Batman: Arkham Knight has been released that’s a direct continuation to the previously-released Officer Down gameplay trailer, titled “Time to go to War.”

In this extended gameplay walkthrough, Batman pays a visit to the safehouse of Scarecrow, fighting against the Arkham Knight’s militia along the way. The video shows Batman performing his well-known hand-to-hand combat style as he attacks, dodges, and employs the use of his many gadgets to take down a number of henchmen.

The video then shows off some of Arkham Knight’s story by featuring Poison Ivy, Oracle and The Batmobile, leading up to an ending we won’t spoil for those interested in watching the video.

Batman: Arkham Knight will available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on June 23. WBIE has been pushing the hype train along quite nicely for Arkham Knight as they’ve released a live-action video and revealing its Season Pass, which includes a Batgirl-focused prequel, will offer six months of post-release content.

Lenovo announces VR Goggles to compete with Samsung Gear VR

Lenovo has announced they’re throwing their headset into the VR ring as they introduce its Lenovo VR Goggles TechWorld in Beijing today.

The Lenovo VR Goggles work in a similar manner to how the Samsung Gear VR functions. The headset works with Lenovo Android phones by providing an immersive experience by sliding the phone into it, thus using it as its display. The headset features a dial on each of its sides that adjusts each lens as well as a dial on top for focus. Navigating the VR Goggles is done through the use of a handheld remote control.

Considering Lenovo’s Android phones don’t have a large presence in Western markets, we probably won’t be seeing it launching in the US anytime soon. Although now that Motorola is owned by Lenovo, there’s always a possibility of it being compatible with Motorola phones down the line.

Lenovo has yet to announce pricing and availability, although they should launch towards the end of 2015.

While companies like Oculus VR and HTC have their eyes on desktop VR, the mobile VR scene appears to be a bit more open as there is yet to be a dominant player in the field. Samsung has its Gear VR, Google has Cardboard,  and a number of other lesser-known companies have their own respective headsets. Meanwhile, Microsoft is completely straying from the world of VR with its HoloLens headset, although its use of holographics is still impressive.

WildStar will become a free-to-play game this fall

WildStar has been out for almost a full year and it's definitely a game that's had its ups and downs. On the one hand, the MMORPG has received critical acclaim, with

As the next step in Carbine's ongoing effort to court new players, the studio has announced that WildStar will forego its monthly subscription model and go free-to-play this fall. All players will be able to level up to 50, acquire all Ampsand abilities, and participate in all dungeons, raids, adventures, shiphands, and PvP game modes. Likewise, all of the game's areas will be open for exploration for no charge.

The monthly fee will not go away entirely, but it will now be a much more optional idea. Those that continue paying the monthly fee will receive a number of convenience bonuses and XP boosts. Those players will also see boosts to their crafting, currency drops, items drops, and reputation. Paid members will also receive some additional cosmetic bonuses, like costumes and decor items. Further details on this subscription model will be revealed closer to the free-to-play transition.

The in-game store will also undergo a transition. All cosmetic items that are sold via NCSoft's NCoin currency will have equivalent items out in the world that players that can purchase with acquired play time. So while the option will be there to purchase these items with real money, those that have invested heavy time in WildStar will also have the opportunity to get these items, as a reward for their loyalty. One thing that will not change is that stat-boosting and power-based items will still need to be earned through gameplay and will not be sold under any circumstances.

So why wait until this fall to go free-to-play, rather than just go free-to-play right away? Carbine notes that they'll first have to prepare for the actual transition, which will be accompanied by the game's largest update so far. To prepare for an expected influx of new players, Carbine is looking to completely overhaul the early portions of the game by streamlining the tutorial and the opening missions. Veteran players will see player and item stats receive a similar facelift, with a more intuitive interface and new high-level options for those that have hit the level cap. All Amp slots will be unlocked, in an effort to make the game's Amp system easier to use. And finally, each and every one of the game's dungeons and open worlds will undergo a review and will all receive a challenge adjustment.

It's a tall task for Carbine, which is why the free-to-play update will run through the Public Test Realm servers first. The developer acknowledges that if anything goes wrong, the estimated fall deployment date could get pushed back.

Carbine also acknowledges the need to provide an incentive to keep subscriptions active until the free-to-play transition. That's why users that maintain an active subscription from June 15 through the transition will receive exclusive items and bonuses. Carbine is also planning additional rewards for those that have maintained a WildStar subscription from the very beginning. More details about those rewards can be found on the WildStar website.

Carbine is fully aware that the WildStar fanbase will have more questions about this transition, which is why the team will take to Twitch this Friday, May 29 at 10AM PDT to provide additional details. WildStar is available now on PC.

FIFA 16 will include 12 Women's National Teams

For years, the FIFA series of games have been among the best soccer games available, with EA Sports maintaining a consistent level of quality. For many people, it's the first destination for men's soccer. However, for this year's edition of the franchise, the series is going beyond the men's game. Today, EA Sports is announcing that FIFA 16 will be introducing women's international soccer for the first time.

FIFA 16 will feature 12 Women's National Teams, many of which are competing in this year's World Cup. The teams are Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, England, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Spain, Sweden, and the United States. The women's teams will be available for the game's Kick Off mode, as well as Online Friendly Matches.

EA Sports has put the same effort into motion capture with the women, as they have with the men. Motion capture sessions were conducted with top female players Sydney Leroux, Abby Wambach, Alex Morgan, and Megan Rapinoe. Player movement will reflect the women's game, right down to the game's movement.

Women's International Soccer will make its way onto FIFA 16 when the game hits PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 on September 23. For more, check out the video below.

Disney Infinity 3.0 'Inside Out' Play Set - hands-on impressions

Much of the excitement of Disney Infinity 3.0 revolves around the addition of the Star Wars franchise. That makes sense. The multi-billion dollar acquisition from a couple of years ago was one of the last major cards Disney Interactive had to play for its toy-based game. But there's more to Disney Infnity 3.0 than simply Star Wars. There are also some new sets based on other Disney properties, including one based on the upcoming Disney/Pixar effort, Inside Out.

While the Inside Out Play Set will feature the characters from the upcoming film, it will not follow the movie plot. Rather, Avalanche Software is creating something of a sequel story that follows the ongoing life of main character Riley. The game will begin with Riley falling asleep while watching TV, as so many people tend to do. However, she'll accidentally switch channels to a horror movie that happens to be running. Her subconscious will pick up on the frightening imagery and will infect her mind.

This is where the rest of the main Inside Out cast comes in. Players will jump into a 2D/3D platformer, controlling each of Riley's Emotions: Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust, and Sadness. As swamp creatures and killer broccoli run amok in Riley's brain, the Emotions must use their unique skills to complete platforming sequences and complete certain tasks. For our hands-on, the task was to collect balloons scattered throughout the stage.

The stage would switch between 2D side-scrolling and 3D platforming at various point, finding different places to put the balloons. Avalanche even sprinkled in some novel twists to the 2D sequences by introducing anti-gravity areas that will have characters running across plains while upside-down. It's nothing intensely difficult, given the age group that the game is aiming for, but it looks to be competently put together, while also featuring some witty banter from each of the characters.

The Emotion skills include:

  • Joy - The bright ray of sunshine, Joy can follow up each jump with a glide to get her across distant spaces.
  • Fear - The neurotic Fear uses his cowardice to his advantage, having a quicker dash speed than his friends.
  • Anger - The ever-furious Anger uses his very nature to walk across lava pits safely.
  • Disgust - Not wanting to touch anything, Disgust will keep everything at an arm's length, allowing her to bounce off cloud platforms higher than any other character.
  • Sadness - Clouds will dissolve underneath any character, unless you're the perpetual raincloud known as Sadness. Sadness can traverse across clouds without having to worry about them dissipating under her feet.

Avalanche plans to mix up the traditional platforming sequences with some puzzles, many of them based on music. To proceed, players must leap across these musical platforms in sequence to play a song and pave the way.

Players can jump into this Play Set solo, but with five Emotions, there's plenty of room for two-player co-op. Two players will be able to take the Emotions and use their skills in conjunction with one another to complete stages. For example, Anger can carry a friend across lava and keep them both safe, while Sadness can do the same for any of her other friends and stay atop clouds for an unlimited time.

Inside Out is hitting theaters in three weeks, but it'll take slightly longer for the Inside Out Play Set to make its way to Disney Infinity. These figures will be introduced with Disney Infinity 3.0 when it releases this fall on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Wii U, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, iOS, and Android.
