PlanetSide 2 deploys on PS4 on June 23

With months of beta testing under their belts, Daybreak Games is now ready to put its seal of approval on the PlayStation 4 version of their MMOFPS, PlanetSide 2. The free-to-play shooter now has a June 23 launch date, with Daybreak adding that there will be no PlayStation Plus membership required to jump into the action.

"We've put a lot of effort into streamlining and improving the feature set so that PS4 players will have the ultimate massive-scale, FPS gaming experience," Director of Development Andy Sites said on PlayStation.Blog. "We've also incorporated some unique features that are currently exclusive to the PS4 version, which for example, include the new battle map, Koltyr. We will continue to further improve and enhance the gameplay experience after launch as well. In the weeks and months following the release on June 23rd, players can look forward to frequent game updates, which will include deeper features, holiday events and content, new in-game marketplace items, and much, much more."

It's been about a year since Shacknews last went hands-on with the PlayStation 4 version of PlanetSide 2. Aside from the occasional plunge into a mountain, the controls appeared to translate to a DualShock 4 just fine and the game appeared visually on-par with its PC counterpart. The one feature the game will not have, unfortuntely, is cross-play with the PC version, a topic that former Creative Director Matt Higby has touched on several times.
