Valve has announced its long-awaited Steam Controller is now available for pre-order on Steam and across a number of different retailers.

The Steam Controller is Valve’s attempt to bring PC gamers to the living room as it allows them to play with both the precision of a mouse and the familiarity of a controller in one device. The Steam Controller brings games that were previously only accessible with a keyboard and mouse to the comfort of your couch.

Using 1:1 position, the controller can virtualize familiar controls, such as a trackball, a scroll wheel, or a mouse. Valve also says the Steam Controller allows its user to type “effortlessly” from the couch. In a new video published today highlighting the Steam Controller, we can see both pads are used to bring up two different cursors over a virtual keyboard.

The Steam Controller can be personalized to how you want to play your game. A number of templates will be available that allow the gamepad to perform in a variety of ways. Players can also create their own personal template or go to the Steam community to find the perfect control scheme.

The triggers on the Steam Controller have a dual-stage trigger, which has an analog pull and a digital switch, as well as grip buttons, making this also an FPS-friendly gamepad.

The Steam Controller will be available starting on November 10. Alienware announced it will be one of the first companies to release a Steam Machine, which you can read about here.
