Capcom has announced a new game that will compile a total of six Mega Man titles into one legendary collection as Mega Man Legacy Collection will be available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC this summer with a 3DS release expected this winter.
Mega Man Legacy Collection will feature Mega Man 1-6 in 1080p as well as a number of modern bonuses such as challenges, leaderboards, replays, and museum. The museum is packed with a visual history of Mega Man games that includes sketches and official artwork.
Developer Digital Eclipse is using its new Eclipse Engine to bring these classic 8-bit games to modern consoles and PC. The engine rebuilds the original games from their source elements, making them sharp and clear. “Movies have the Criterion Collection, but there hasn’t been anything like that for games,” said Digital Eclipse’s head of restoration Frank Cifaldi “We’re living in the golden age of a brand new form of artistic expression, and we’re not doing a very good job of making sure our games will be available five years from now, let alone fifty. The more we can do right now to take video game preservation seriously, the safer our history will be.”
Today's news just comes days after Capcom announced Mega Man will be getting his own animated series in 2017.
Mega Man Legacy will retail for $14.99 when it releases.
