Mad Catz has announced they will be co-publishing Rock Band 4 and will be in charge of the title’s retail sales, promotion, and worldwide distribution. Harmonix will still retain control of the game’s digital sales as well as any additional DLC.
Mad Catz was already working with Harmonix to deliver new hardware for Rock Band 4 when the game was first announced last month, but this new partnership takes things to another level beyond just creating peripherals. Speaking of peripherals, Mad Catz’s public relations director Alex Verrey says he believes his company will be delivering the “very best music game controllers you’ve ever played with.”
Activision announced its Guitar Hero franchise was also being revitalized this year with Guitar Hero Live. The publisher plans on taking the legendary music franchise into the realm of first-person perspective as players will be able to literally take the stage during their performances. In comparison, we really don’t know much about Rock Band 4 besides that it’ll be available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and that Mad Catz is working on peripherals. We still don’t know how it’ll look, what it’ll offer, and if our previously-purchased DLC will be transferrable. While today’s news of Mad Catz co-publishing Rock Band 4 is certainly interesting, we’re dying to see what Harmonix has up its sleeve in terms of gameplay for the title.
