PlayStation 4's suspend/resume feature and more coming tomorrow

mercredi 25 mars 2015

Sony announced the PlayStation 4 will be receiving its system software version 2.50 tomorrow, which will include the long-awaited suspend & resume feature as well as others.

System update 2.50 will feature a number of improvements in addition to the suspend & resume feature, which allows users to quickly switch from the console’s Rest Mode to pick up right where they left off. The console will now allow backing up and restoring data from its internal hard drive to an external USB drive, such as settings, saved data, screenshots, and video clips as well as games, patches, and download data.

Sony has also made some major improvements to how PS4 owners find their friends and interact with them in a number of ways. Users will now be able to find their Facebook friends on PSN, so long as both parties have linked their accounts to Facebook in the first place. If you’re looking for friends to play a specific game, you’ll be able to view what friends are playing within each game’s detail page, and if you own the game, you can jump right into it.

Other additions includes sharing earner trophies, customized button assignments, 60fps support for both Remote and Share Play, automatic installation of system software updates, upgrading sub accounts, and even allowing select game developers, producers, designers, and community managers to have verified accounts.

We caught wind of system update 2.50 when its details were leaked by those who were taking part in its beta, which Sony confirmed many of its features shortly after its leak. The suspend & resume feature was one Sony had promised would be available on the PS4 when the console was first announced back in February 2013. To say it’s been a highly-anticipated feature would be a huge understatement and we’re looking forward to giving it a try when it’s released tomorrow.
