Top First-Person Shooters Coming to Nvidia Shield

lundi 16 mars 2015

Nvidia made history when it announced the Shield set-top console at this year's GDC. Not only can the Shield stream media and games from the cloud, but it can play Android games. We're not talking any old Android games here. With the power of Nvidia's Tegra X1 processor, Shield owners will be able to play games that rival traditional PC and console releases.

First-person shooters have always been the games that push the graphics technologies to their limits. Here are the big name shooters that will be playable Android, optimized for Shield.

Blacklight Retribution

Compete in a dark, futuristic, world in Blacklight Retribution. This fast paced competitive sci-fi shooter features a variety of high-tech weapons and gadgets to use against opponents in team based head-to-head matches. Tools like the Hyper Reality Visor (HRV) lets you see through walls to spot enemies, but beware, because using it leaves you vulnerable. Best of all, this shooter is free-to-play.

Dead Trigger 2

Dead Trigger 2 is free-to-play that features everyone's favorite monsters: zombies. Some gigantic sized ones at that. The undead plague has brought humanity to the brink of extinction, and you must help save the remaining survivors. Find a safe place, equip yourself with customized weapons, then head out there and take on the zombie onslaught.

Doom 3 BFG Edition

No game is more recognizable among first-person shooters than Doom, and the Doom 3 BFG Edition packs it all into one package. You'll get to play a fully updated version of Doom 3, complete with the Resurrection of Evil expansion and The Lost Mission side story. As if that weren't enough, the BFG Edition also includes Doom I and II, so you can relive the classics on your Shield console.

Portal

While most shooters focus on fighting off enemies with loads of weaponry, Portal challenges you to use your mind. Armed with a gun that paints openings on flat surfaces, you must solve a series of puzzles and mazes to escape the confines of the Aperture labs testing facility, and its all-seeing and insane artificial intelligence, GlaDOS.

Half-Life 2 and Episode One and Two

Few games leave the same impression that the Half-Life 2 trilogy does. Ported to Android and optimized for Nvidia Shield devices, it's hard to tell the difference between these games and their original releases on the PC. Play as Gordon Freeman, who must find a way to free humanity from the oppressive alien Combine forces which now occupy Earth. But you don't have to do it alone, since Alyx Vance will be there to help along with her robotic pet, Dog. With ground breaking physics, using a Gravity Gun, and an unforgettable story and characters, the Half-Life 2 series is a must have for any game collection.

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel

Find out one of the most memorable characters of the Borderlands series, Handsome Jack, go from being a wannabe hero to Pandora's greatest villain. In Borderlands: The Pre-sequel, players take the role of mercenaries, out to make a buck while saving Pandora's moon, Elpis, from certain destruction. Players can look forward to using ice weapons and laser beams, while taking advantage of the moon's lower gravity for some butt stomping action. Not to mention, Claptrap will be lending his personality and skills as a playable character.

Borderlands 2

Gather up your friends, because it's time to go vault hunting. In Borderlands 2, you can play as different classes that include the Siren, the Commando, the Gunzerker and the Assassin. Up to four players can come together and fight their way across the insanely violent world of Pandora to confront Handsome Jack and his plans for ultimate control. With plenty of quirky characters, deadly creatures, and a near infinite variety of weapon combinations, Borderlands 2 offers an experience that is unlike any other.

Crysis 3

Crysis 3 pushed the limits of technology when it first released for the PC and consoles, and now it's making its way onto Android, optimized for the Nvidia Shield. Play as Prophet, a soldier wearing a nanosuit armor that enables spectacular abilities like stealth along with increased strength, speed, and endurance. Then use powerful alien weapons to fight off enemies, both human and extraterrestrial. Explore an open world and fight to survive in a story that's full of action and plenty of twists and turns.
